Red Line: In 1960 the first part of the first line (Svyatoshino-Brovarskaya-Line) opened between Vokzal'na (Central Station) and Dnipro. After this station, eastbound, the line leaves the tunnel to cross the river on a bridge. The line was completed in 1971. Teatral'na station (formerly Leninskaya) was added in 1987. The total length of the line is 20 km and there are 20 stations.
Blue Line: The second line (Kurenevsko-Krasnoarmesskaya-Line) was opened in 1976 between Kalina (tranfer to line 1) and Pl. Krasnaya (Kontraktova Pl.). Between 1980 and 1984 the line was extended on both ends and is now 13 km long and has 12 stations.
Green Line: The third line (Sirezko-Pecherskaya-Line) also began in the city centre in 1989 and this line has been growing towards the south-east. The north-west branch opened in 1997 with one station Luk'yanivs'ka (L'vivs'ka Brama not finished). Pecherska station opened in 1998. Dorogozich was opened in 2000. An extension with two more stations is under construction. Total length of the line is 18.5 km.

The first steam tram lines were open in 1891. The first electric tram line was open in 1892. It was the first in Russia and the second in Europe. Also, the first in the USSR speed tram line was open in Kiev in 1978.

Very steep railroad connecting Podol and Upper City. Original was called Mekhaylovskiy Mechanical Lift. Total length of rails is 238 meters (originally 200 meters).

The first railroad station was build in 1868-70 in the Old English Gothic style by architect Vishnevski. New building was build in the place of the original in 1929-32 by architect A.M. Verbitzkiy in Ukrainian Baroque style. In 1970, 80s, and 1990s the building was renovated several times.
